Dry Skin
Dry Skin
Dry skin: what is it?
It is fairly normal to have dry skin, especially on the bottom of the foot. Lack of moisture causes the skin to become dry, which makes it less elastic, more likely to break, and more likely to peel. Because the fractures offer a point of entrance, dry skin is therefore more vulnerable to bacterial and fungal infections.
Why does dry skin occur?
When the epidermis, the topmost layer of the skin, becomes dehydrated, dry skin results. Dehydrated skin is more likely to split and break because it loses its elasticity.
There are several causes of dry skin, including:
- Medications
- Athletes Foot
- Doing too much washing
- Ageing
- The detergents in cleaning products
- The weather conditions
- Health conditions
