Nail Surgery

The removal of all or a portion of your toenail is known as nail surgery. When an in-growing toenail occurs repeatedly, it is typically necessary. Minor surgery provides a long-term solution to the issue and is a reasonably easy process.

During the operation, a local anaesthetic is given into your toe, numbing it and preventing any pain perception. A band is applied to the base of your numb toe to assist stop the bleeding. The troublesome nail, either in its entirety or in a fragment, is then extracted. A chemical is applied to stop the nail from growing back in an undesirable way.

In order to avoid infection, care must be done in the initial weeks following surgery. The entire process typically takes an hour to finish and is a working, effective way to deal with ingrown nails.

You will need to rest and keep your foot up for a few hours following the procedure. The next day, you can go back to work or school. It is recommended that you avoid running and sports for a minimum of two weeks. Your age and overall health will determine how long it takes to heal, although it usually takes 4 to 12 weeks.
