Thick nails: what are they?
Nails that have thickened are called thick toenails. In addition to being difficult to trim and frequently considered unappealing thick toenails can make it difficult for shoes to fit properly. An ulcer may develop beneath the nail plate if a very thick toenail is not treated because of the pressure it puts on the nail bed.
Why do nails get so thick?
The most frequent causes of thickened toenails are fungal infections and trauma, such as “stubbing” or dumping something heavy onto the toe. Other causes of thicker toenails include:
- Shoes that are too tight and poorly fitted
- Health issues/ Medical Conditions
- Growing older
Circulation issues
